King Bhumibol’s Funeral and Cremation On Oct 26
King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be cremated on Oct 26. The funeral will take place over a 5 day period. Bhumibol was 88, when he died on Oct 13, 2016. He was the world’s longest-reigning monarch. His rule spanned seven decades. The military government has set 3 billion baht ($90 million) for the funeral of King Bhumibol.

The whole country will be in mourning for the beloved king. The last monarch’s funeral was in 1950.
The funeral pyre, which will include towering pavilions and hundreds of statues of gods and mythical beasts, represents Mount Meru which is a sacred mountain with five peaks in Hindu, Jain and Buddhist cosmology and is considered to be the center of all the physical, metaphysical and spiritual universes where Thais believe Bhumibol’s spirit will return.
