Chinese Invasion

Prayuth wanted “Quality Tourists”. Wish granted. It doesn’t get better than this. Pigs on the Loose.

Euro is going downhill, European tourists numbers will follow. Ruble is already downhill. Russian tourists numbers will decrease dramatically. Thailand get ready.

Chinese tourists will fill that gap. First time for them to travel abroad. Many Chinese tourists are rural people who recently acquired money through land sales but have little education and speak only their own language. Adjust to the culture shock:

  1. A tendency to not flush the toilet.
  2. Never follow any traffic rules.
  3. Being loud.
  4. Littering, spitting, queue-jumping.
  5. Allowing children to defecate in public pools.
  6. Terrible English language skills.
  7. Hoarding food at buffets and leaving a mess on restaurant tables.

Chinese tourists visited the temple. After posing for a photo on the antique teak staircase, one man jumped in the air and accidently kicked the post, breaking it in two. The manager expressed anger after he says the man simply walked away as if nothing happened.

The manager complained that Chinese tourists often steal small parts and sculptures from the museum and also refuse to flush toilets.

The White Temple in Chiang Rai plans to build separate toilets for Thais and other non-Chinese tourists.

The White Temple’s Designer, Chalermchai Kositpipat said he will add the “New Toilets” as a solution to complaints about the lack of bathroom etiquette by Chinese tourists.

Previously, the White Temple staff had altogether banned Chinese tourists after Chinese tour groups had left the toilets in a state of disrepair. “They had defecated on the floor, urinated on the walls outside and left sanitary pads on the wall of the bathrooms.”

  1. It seems a lot of Chinese are getting offended by that “Chinese Invasion” writing. Let me make it clear. I know how well educated Chinese are frustrated with their own “misbehaved, uneducated, illiterate” Chinese and don’t like seeing them around. I am talking about the Chinese who never been in Shanghai or any major city in China and now they can fly overseas straight from the village, carrying with them their local village manners. You want to Pee or Poo, just go and do it in the open field. You want to talk to someone, just scream and yell at him loudly in the open field. You want to spit, just spit in the field. Wait in line for your turn. What line! it’s all cluster f**k. There is no space. no privacy. It’s one big open space, call it the field, call it the “Chinese” village life manners.

  2. To be fair, I don’t think “not being able to speak English” counts as being uneducated or impolite, and this should definitely not be held against Chinese tourists.

China is a huge country, and most of the people can only speak their own language. So what? Most Thais have pretty limited English too. Does it matter?

I agree about many of them lacking manners, although some of the examples you give only apply to extreme cases.

I would also like to point out that the girl who did the naked bungee jump was from Hong Kong. There is a huge difference between people from Hong Kong and Mainland China, and it is usually only the Mainlanders who are accused of being rude and uncouth.
